What would you have done? Last night I had a dinner party.During dinner one of my friends who is former top 10 LPGA tour golfer when asked about her thoughts on Tiger said...Well he has revealed himself as nothing but a N...... Everyone was speechless. I said...I am not ok with what you just said.She tried to explain and used the term again. I restated,I am not ok with you saying that. Someone else changed the subject. No one else said anything though I received s this morning supporting me. Her girlfriend who is a social worker for gods sake said nothing but her jaw was clenched. End of that friendship.

Some people never get it Even if it is just a word, it carries so much baggage It just is not OK to use. Good for you, it takes a lot to someone out like that I am not sure I would/could have, but no question I should.

I'm not sure what I would have done, but I applaud what you did. I think it should be pointed out. For me it would depend on context of the situation I think. I'm much better talking these things out 1:1, and might wait until later. I also don't know if I'd nix the entire friendship unless it was just an acquaintance. I'd hope there could be further dialog about what happened when I could sit and talk with just them... though I could not remain friends with someone who wasn't open to talking about it.

I agree with nOmer about not just tossing the friendship. However, I think you did the right thing on ing bullshit in front of the group. Otherwise, it appears that you condone that behaviour and are saying that is OK to the rest of the group.

I think you handled it very well. How did the rest of the night go with that person? The one time I had to do what you did, it was with a coworker. He had been one of my more "friend"-type of coworkers, but after he followed me out of the room, red-faced and yelling "how dare you", "my friends who are ____ don't mind it", etc., things were never really the same between us. However, though he never apologized directly, he was clearly remorseful, and probably thought twice before being such a prick the next time. So maybe there's hope for your friend.

You got me thinking. It is always easier to play x-x. You asked someone their opinion who you invited into your home. She was a guest. You once ed her friend, presumably.(sp)You asked her for an opinion because she was in that realm of the sports world. She knows, first hand, what goes on behind the scenes what the public doesn't gets to see.She used a term that offends your sense of correct thinking? or defines who you are on a gut level.Hmm...She trusted you with her opinion. You gave it back to her with acid barbs. You did what you thought was right. Congrats.
